Next to the golden rule, forgiveness is the main character in patching up our lives. Parents instructed us to say “I’m sorry” beginning in childhood, even when we protested against it.

As we age, we find ourselves spilling the words “I’m sorry” even when we know parents, friends, lovers, and teachers are the ones who wronged us.
